STUDIO tla recently participated in the Rezone and Site Plan Application for a 48 story highrise residential tower located in Midtown Toronto. The linear space between it and a neighbouring tower is intended to serve as a POP or publically accessible private park space, and is designed by STUDIO tla as an urban amenity and future connector to southern parcels per the city’s urban design guidelines. The unique space is envisioned as a passive gathering space with lounge seating, dog rest area, and dedicated space for public art. Due to limits on available natural sunlight minimal planting is necessary, but in its place an intricately designed canopy structure of reflective and internally lit leaf like elements will be installed to provide an artful replacement of filtered light from a tree canopy that is not possible. Interactive in nature, the structure is intended to humanize the mass of adjacent buildings and to provide visual interest.
