Daphne Restaurant Terrace and Scholars' Green Park

STUDIO tla was recently honoured at the Texas ASLA Awards with two awards at a ceremony held in Austin, Texas during the association’s annual conference

The following projects were recognized:

  • Scholar’s Green Park Phases 1 & 2 (Mississauga, ON) Honor Award: International – Design Construct
  • Daphne Restaurant Terrace (Toronto, ON) - Merit Award: International – Design Constructed
Daphne Restaurant Terrace is a 550 sq. ft. dining and lounge space that is the adaptive reuse of a space between two historic buildings in downtown Toronto. Design solutions required close collaboration with the design team and technical studies that enabled the addition of trees, which meant the installation of a complex sub-drainage system and structural solution with soil cells and added irrigation.

Scholars’ Green Park–an innovative, 3.3-acre urban park that is a shared space for the City of Mississauga and Sheridan College–balances accessibility with animated urban spaces, well-designed streetscapes, and a visually engaging aesthetic. Design features include a system of intersecting walkways that create a series of outdoor rooms, a micro forest, sustainable porous glass paving, table tennis, outdoor exercise equipment, bistro-style tables and a recreational field.

We are proud of the collaborative efforts by all the team members on both project teams who helped transform a former parking lot and a derelict alley into places that facilitate connections in the densifying downtown communities of Mississauga and Toronto.

These award-winning projects shine a light on the opportunity for cities to reimagine urban voids and reconsider land usage in select areas–regardless of size–to create unique places that engage and inspire.
