Engaging with the Public at Proposed Finch & Sentinel Community

 Finch & Sentinel Community Meeting

Projects // Sep. 25, 2023

As landscape architects, we highly value the opportunity to participate in public meetings to ensure the needs of the community are adequately addressed – or in an ideal scenario – exceeded. It’s also an opportunity to communicate the design intent of proposed public realm enhancements.

A recent in-person, community consultation held for a proposed mixed-use rental development and community centre at 470 Sentinel Rd., fronting the Finch LRT and near York University, exemplifies. STUDIO tla’s Yvonne Battista and Zhoufan Wan attended the event to discuss the proposed design, large new public park with mature trees, two Privately Owned Publicly Accessible Space (POPS) and outdoor amenity spaces.

A key component of this project involves collaborating with our consulting team–Kirkor Architects and Planners, Bousfields, BA Group, Crozier, and Beacon Environmental–to redevelop the Finch & Sentinel community to create an extensive natural heritage rehabilitation plan to restore the existing urban forest and enrich habitat.

You can learn more about the project on the City of Toronto’s Planning  & Development website.
